Tools and Resources for the
Two-way Radio Tech.

Welcome to the most complete technical resource for two-way radio on the net!

My goal is to save you time and money with unique, powerful software tools, and a free online reference for anyone who builds, services or maintains commercial two-way equipment.

Whether you're an RF engineer, service technician, sales engineer, ham radio operator or experimenter, you'll be sure to find valuable, time-saving resources within these pages. Even if you're not in the business, or just looking for "do-it-yourself" info, this is the place.

Time is money

"Information is your best friend, and the lack of it your worst enemy."

I don't know about you, but I have spent countless hours searching the web for useful information on two-way radio systems and test equipment.

Usually, I find what I'm looking for - but often in very obscure places, embedded in technical manuals and such. As a result of my efforts, I now have reams of relevant information to share with you here.

You'll find however that this site is only partially complete. It's already generating a lot of interest though, and you are invited to help finish it! I can't pay for articles, as this is truly a "labor of love," but as a contributor you will get a bio promoting your services or products and a link to your web site. To be considered, just use the feedback form and be sure to detail your proposed subject matter, experience, etc.

Cheap Test Equipment

We tend to spend a fair amount of money on computers for the office and field, but don't think of them as our most valuable piece of test equipment. All you need is your service monitor and a screwdriver, right? Why not make the most of that old laptop - after all, we mostly use it as little more than a dumb terminal or radio programmer.

Thanks to new advances in software DSP (Digital Signal Processing), you can really put your computer to work, generating page tones, ANI signals, DTMF, CTCSS, and more. Measure SINAD and decode tone signals. Simulate and test tone-remote systems, or turn almost any PC into a portable or emergency tone-remote console. Click on Radio Software to learn more.

Industry standards & protocols

As I mentioned earlier, it is possible to find almost any type of information on the web, providing you have the time, patience, and research skills needed to cajole those search engines into giving you what you're really looking for.

When designing two-way radio communications apparatus, it is often necessary to have detailed specifications on industry standard signals and protocols. You can now find most of them here, neatly organized and double-checked for accuracy - all at no charge (for now). Check back often, as we will continue adding to the database.

Design & troubleshooting aids

Along with the standards and protocols above, you have access to a handy reference guide with formulas, conversions, charts and tables, all related to two-way radio. We'll also be adding helpful tips and tricks of the trade from those who have "been there and done that," along with forums for service tech's.
